What is your vision for Camrose County in 10-20 years?

This is your chance to share your thoughts and help us plan for the future.

Camrose County is creating a new Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and updating the Land Use Bylaw (LUB)

These two documents provide a high-level vision for the future of the County and contain many of the regulations needed to achieve that vision.  The new MDP will provide guidance for the growth and development of Camrose County over the next 10-20 years.  The LUB is a set of rules and regulations for subdivision and development that helps to implement the vision described in the MDP.  These documents together have a large influence over growth and development within the County, thus making it important for you as a resident or business owner to get involved in the planning process.  

What is an MDP?

The Municipal Development Plan (MDP) outlines a future vision for the County.  It outlines how and where the County will grow. The MDP is a long range land use plan which can address many things that the County is responsible for, including:

  • subdivision and planning controls
  • identifying areas for future growth
  • the protection of agricultural operations
  • recreational services (parks, trails)
  • physical, social, and economic development
  • types and locations of various land uses (residential, industrial, commercial)

What is a LUB?

The Land Use Bylaw (LUB) lists the rules and regulations for development within the County and should be in alignment with the goals of the MDP.  The LUB can address the following:

  • the types of allowable land uses
  • building regulations (setbacks, density, height, etc.)
  • type and size of signage
  • landscaping and fencing requirements
  • development permit conditions
  • number of dwellings per parcel

Why are we updating the MDP and LUB now?

The current MDP was adopted in 2004. Over the eleven years since it was adopted much has changed in the County.  Municipalities generally update their MDP every ten years to ensure it continues to meet the needs of residents and development interests. The LUB will need updates to address the priorities of the new MDP and will need to address the inclusion of New Norway within the County.

We welcome input from the community to assist us with updating these important planning documents.  There will be several opportunities for public input throughout the planning process; these opportunities are listed below:
